LG unveils curved OLED TV
(01-09 18:50)

South Korea's electronics giant LG Electronics unveiled Wednesday the industry' s first organic light-emitting diode, OLED, TV with curved screen at the 2013 International CES in Las Vegas.

The new model EA9800, featuring the industry's very first curved screen with full CINEMA 3D support, was introduced at the trade show in Las Vegas, Xinhua news agency reports.

The 55-inch OLED TV with curved display has an equidistant screen surface from the viewer's eyes, removing the problem of screen-edge visual distortion and detail loss. The screen features a dramatic curved design and a vivid picture quality that is practically indiscernible from colors found in nature, the company said.

The model also offers an infinite contrast ratio, which maintains optimal contrast levels regardless of ambient brightness or viewing angle, LG said, noting that it boasts a significantly reduced weight and depth as there is no need for a separate backlight for OLEDs that generate their own light.
