Health chief says 'gutter oil' not widespread
(01-03 14:12)

The government says the vast majority of cooking oil samples it tested over the past two years have been found to be satisfactory. This is despite the discovery of excessive levels of a cancer-causing substance known as BAP -- or 'gutter oil' -- in several samples taken last month, RTHK reports.
The Health Secretary, Ko Wing-man, stressed that it was an isolated oproblem, and the supplier of the affected oil had been asked to stop selling it and recall the product.
Ko said it would not be appropriate to enact legislation to control the use of BAP.
