Swiss police shoot gunman who killed three

Swiss police said they shot and wounded a gunman who shot dead three people and wounded two others late yesterday in the Swiss village of Daillon.
Three died at the scene,’’ police in the Canton of Valais said, adding that two others were wounded and taken to hospital.
They did not identify the killer.
At around 8:50 pm (local time) “the cantonal police headquarters was told that an individual was shooting at residents of the village of Daillon/Conthey,'' police said in a statement today. They were told that “several injured people are lying on the ground.''
Valais police accompanied by special units “immediately intervened and neutralized the suspect,'' the statement added.
The police came under threat and had to open fire, wounding the suspect, according to cantonal police spokesman Jean-Marie Bornet.
The public prosecutor of Valais went to the scene and an inquiry was opened.
