Beijing Olympics draws 21pc more US viewers than Athens Games
(08-14 11:43)
The Beijing Olympics is attracting 21 percent more U.S. television viewers than the Games in Athens four years ago, broadcaster NBC said.

Average viewership for the first five days of coverage was 31.3 million, compared with 25.8 million for the same period in the Athens Games, NBC said in a statement today.

The TV network, a unit of General Electric, paid US$894 million (HK$6.97 billion) for US rights to the Beijing Olympics.
NBC achieved the highest viewership for the Beijing Games on Monday night, drawing 82 million people, prompted by interest in swimmer Michael Phelps, the statement said.
