Saakashvili 'fell into a vulgar trap': French official
(08-13 11:44)
Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili "fell into a vulgar trap'' by launching an offensive on the rebel province of South Ossetia, an official in the delegation of French President Nicolas Sarkozy said .

"Saakashvili is up against the ropes. He gambled and he lost,'' the official, who spoke on condition he not be named.
"Saakashvili was crazy enough to go in the middle of the night and bomb a city'' in South Ossetia, and Russia replied with its own bombing. The result, he said, is "a Georgia attacked, pulverized, through its own fault.''

The Georgian leadership "thought that [Russian Prime Minister Vladimir ] Putin, in the middle of the Olympics, would not respond,'' he said.
