UN rights envoy ends Burma visit
(08-08 11:10)
A United Nations human rights envoy held "constructive'' talks with junta leaders in Burma and was allowed to meet with detained pro-democracy activists during his five-day visit, the UN said in a statement.

Tomas Ojea Quintana met with the country's longest serving political prisoner, U Win Tin, 78, who has been detained since 1989, and with representatives of the opposition National League for Democracy, the world body said.

He is scheduled to report his findings to the UN Human Rights Council in March next year and discussed with junta officials to possibility of returning to Burma before then.
