Ton-up pair set tone for India batsmen
(11-24 19:53)
Openers Gautam Gambhir, pictured, and Virender Sehwag struck sparkling centuries as India amassed 417 for two against Sri Lanka after the first day of the second Test in Kanpur.

Gambhir, 28, top-scored with 167, his fourth Test century in a row, after Sehwag hit an aggressive 131, the pair putting on 233 for the opening wicket.

At stumps, Rahul Dravid was 85 not out with Sachin Tendulkar on 20.

Left-hander Gambhir put in another rock-solid performance to follow an innings of 114 in the drawn first Test in Ahmedabad and added another 137 runs for the second wicket with Dravid.

Off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan eventually removed both Indian openers to provide some relief after skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat on a good pitch.

Sri Lanka dropped Sehwag in the first over and the tourists were punished for the costly lapse as the Delhi batsman hit 18 fours and two sixes in his 16th Test hundred.
