Fallout looms as Edison Chen returns to HK
(05-29 23:40)
Disgraced actor Edison Chen Koon-hei is creating strong undercurrents in the Hong Kong entertainment scene despite making a quiet but no less surprising return to the city two days ago.

The actor at the center of the city's biggest sex photos scandal has been swarmed by the paparazzi the rare time he has ventured out, apparently without bodyguards, of his hotel room at W Hong Kong, where he was cloistered with advisers and select employees of his Clot clothing company.

A Chinese-language newspaper reported that the 28-year-old has returned to the city for his fashion business after a spell of more than a year following a scandal in which he has photographed himself and several actresses, models, singers and starlets in graphic intimate detail.

The uploading of the photos forced Chen, pictured today being followed by a pack of photographers, to remove himself from the Hong Kong entertainment scene to Canada and led to the recent jailing of computer technician Sze Ho-chun, 24.

The photos sparked death threats against Chen, what with their impact on the careers of a slew of notable actresses, particularly Gillian Chung Yan-tung and Cecilia Cheung Pak-chi. He refused to return to Hong Kong in February for the Sze case.

Chen is believed to have cut short his leave of absence from the Hong Kong entertainment scene, during which he has been spotted in Canada, the United States and Singapore, also because of other reasons, one of which is the recent bankruptcy of his father, Chen Chak-man.
