Teen idol Ishikawa fails in bid for US Open place
(05-25 20:06)
Teen golf star Ryo Ishikawa failed to qualify for the US Open after finishing 18th in Japan's final elimination event for the tournament.

Ishikawa, pictured, scored an even-par 144 in a one-day, 36-hole event at Ryugasaki Country Club in Ibaraki, north of Tokyo, with only the top five players qualifying for the June 18-21 event in Farmingdale, New York.

"I'm still at the bottom among the players here in terms of playing ability, but I thought I could make it as I was in good shape,'' the 17-year-old said.

Ishikawa made his Masters debut last month and has received a special invitation to play in the PGA Championship on August 13-16 at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota.
