Nikkei gives up gains

Stocks in Tokyo fell 0.18 percent. Early gains on rebounds in US stocks were eroded by profit-taking. The benchmark Nikkei 225 index closed down 24.27 points to 13,636.28 while the Topix index of all first-section issues lost 0.14 percent, or 1.63 points, to 1,140.00.—AFP
