Bankruptcy filings jump 36pc in September

The Official Receiver's Office received a total of 691 bankruptcy petitions in September, surging 35.8 percent compared with a year ago and 4.5 percent higher than August.
For the first nine months this year, the department has recorded 5,940 petitions, 7.7 percent more than the same period of last year.
The total bankruptcy orders the department has made grew 4.4 percent year-on-year to 589 in September, while the figure is 7 percent less than August.
The department made 5,662 bankruptcy orders for the first three quarters this year, 4.97 percent more over a year earlier.
