Three men who flew in from Hong Kong on a Dragonair flight have been arrested at Taichung Airport for trying to smuggle illicit drugs worth over US$340,000.

Aviation police said the drug mules had more than eight kilograms of methamphetamine tied to their waist and thighs in small packets on Sunday night.

The three suspects were detained when passing through immigration after being intercepted by police who found them to be very nervous.

One of the suspects surnamed Tu told police that each of them was asked to carry the narcotics from Malaysia to Taiwan for NT$100,000.

The three have been turned over to the Taichung District Prosecutors Office for further investigation on violation of Drug Prevention and Control Act.
