Mona Fong, widow of Run Run Shaw, dies at 83

Mona Fong Yat-wah, the widow of Hong Kong media mogul Run Run Shaw, has died at the age of 83, Television Broadcasts Limited said today.

Fong passed away peacefully at 5:28pm this afternoon at Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital with family by her side, the broadcaster said in a statement.

Also known as Lee Mong-lan, she had been a director of TVB (0511) since October 1988, assisting Shaw in the operation of the local broadcaster and Shaw Brothers.

Fong was appointed deputy chairperson of TVB in October 2000 and assumed the role of managing director in May 2006 until her retirement at the end of March 2012.

Until her death today, she continued to be a non-executive director.

Shaw, a founding director of TVB and executive chairman for three decades, died at the age of 107 in January 2014.
