Hong Kong's flagship carrier will be removed from the benchmark Hang Seng Index.

In an announcement today, the Hang Seng Indexes Company said it has decided to remove Cathay Pacific Airways (0293) and Kunlun Energy (0135) from the blue-chip index after reviewing the Hang Seng Family of Indexes for the quarter ended September 29 this year.

Chinese property developer Country Garden (2007) and lens manufacturer Sunny Optical Technology (2382) will become the two new components of the benchmark index.

In the previous quarterly review, China's largest pork producer WH Group (0288) was selected to be included in the Hang Seng Index, which brought the total number of index constituents from 49 to 50 in September.

Meanwhile, Guangzhou Automobile (2238) will replace China Longyuan Power (0916) as a component of the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index. The total number of constituents will remain at 40.

All changes will be effective on December 4 this year.
