HKT mobile revenue falls, net rises to HK$2.3b

Leading telco HKT (6823), reported today first half profit grew by 3 percent to HK$2.38 billion, but revenue fell by 5 percent to HK$15.64 billion.

Basic earnings per share stapled unit was 31.57 HK cents. The company declared an interim distribution per share stapled unit of 28.12 HK cents.

Revenue from telecom services was stable at HK$10.3 billion, but mobile revenue declined by 11 percent to HK$5.5 billion. Mobile subscribers also fell by 7 percent to 4.2 million as of end June.

Revenue from handset sales tumbled by 42 percent to HK$1.02 billion compared with HK$1.77 billion a year earlier.

Local data services revenue, comprising broadband network revenue and local data revenue, increased by 2 percent year-on-year to HK$3.53 bllion for the six months ended June 30, the company said.
