Low income families seek review on allowance

The Alliance for Social Protection of Low Income Families and the Alliance for Children Development Rights today called for a review on the low income working family allowance.

Around 30 members protested outside the Legislative Council, urging the government to loosen the application requirements and to include one-person households in the scheme.

One of the group's organizers, Li Fung-tsing, said the procedures deter families from applying.

She said the families should be allowed to submit their working hours instead of insisting on documentary proof from their employers.

The protesters later handed over their demands to the Secretary for Labour Law Chi-kwong.-RTHK
