News report claims to reveal CY role in Wang Chau task force

A new report alleges that the Chief Executive had played an active role than he claimed in setting up a task force for Wang Chau development controversy.

Leung Chun-ying had insisted on Monday that he only took a "mediating role” as the chairman of a taskforce because there was nobody else suitable.

But the Apple Daily newspaper reported today that it has obtained a copy of an internal email within the government, which clearly stated that Leung had requested for the task force to be set up, and he be the chairman of it.

It also stated that the role of the task force would be to "consider” and "iron out” details of the development blueprint, as opposed to Leung’s claims that the task force only served as a "coordinating body”.

The new revelations drew fierce criticism from lawmaker-elect Edward Yiu from the architectural and surveying sector, who said the government has lost all credibility and integrity.

He said he will support his colleague Chu Hoi-dick’s plan to invoke Legco’s Powers and Privileges Ordinance to look into the matter when the council’s new term begins.-RTHK
