Localist Eddie Chu Hoi-dick emerged a winner in New Territories West today, with a record number of votes.

Self-determination supporters Nathan Law Kwun-chung and lecturer Lau Siu-lai, also won in Hong Kong Island and Kowloon West.

Chu polled a record 84,121 votes.

Chu was one of four opposition winners in New Territories West, along with incumbent Kwok Ka-ki of the Civic Party; Andrew Wan from the Democratic Party; and localist Cheng Chung Tai from the radical group, Civic Passion.

Chu broke into tears as he thanked his supporters, and described the election process as "amazing." However, Chu admitted that he didn't expect to get so many votes. He said he thinks the reason that he was so successful is because voters support the causes that he champions, including environmental protection, RTHK reported.
