Security guards bar Link Reit protesters

Local | 5 May 2016 4:21 pm

There were rowdy scenes outside the Link Reit headquarters in Kwun Tong today after some protesters tried to storm the office but were stopped by security guards in the lobby.

The protesters were demanding a meeting with Link's chief executive George Hongchoy, accusing the company of reneging on a promise to meet shop owners and tenants.

About 25 protesters were involved in the altercation with the security guards.

They say they were supposed to meet Hongchoy, but only eight representatives from pan-democratic groups were allowed in.

The meeting was arranged after protesters staged a sit-in at the Link's office last week demanding that it stop outsourcing wet markets management and raising rents.

Last week, Link applied for a court injunction to bar protesters from entering its headquarters.—RTHK
