The Kwun Tong Magistracy today found Sai Kung district councillor Christine Fong not guilty for assaulting lawmaker Elizabeth Quat.

She was charged for one count of common assault during a protest against Tseung Kwan O landfill expansion in July 2014. Fong and others held banners to surround DAB legislator Quat and was alleged to have made her feel threatened.

In sentencing, Magistrate Don So said he couldn't conclude that Quat felt threatened that the defendant was going to attack her. He also said he believed Fong wouldn't act in such a manner publicly and when the news cameras were covering the event.

Fong is running in the New Territories East Legislative Council by-election. Other candidates include Lau Chi-sing, Nelson Wong, Holden Chow, Albert Leung, Edward Leung and Alvin Yeung.—RTHK
