Xi Jinping extends assuring hand to HK, asks Carrie Lam to have effective dialogue with all

President Xi Jinping has reassured Hong Kong of the central government's unwavering support in a meeting with embattled leader Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor.
He declared a "high degree of trust" in Lam after meeting her yesterday in Shanghai before the start of an international trade fair.
Xi praised Lam for the hard work in efforts by her and the her team to restore order in the city, Xinhua reports.
"Xi voiced the central government's high degree of trust in Lam and full acknowledgement of the work of her and her governance team," Xinhua reports.
"Ending violence and chaos and restoring order remain the most important task for Hong Kong at present," Xi said. 

He also called for "effective efforts" on livelihood issues and having a dialogue with all sectors of society.

Xi expressed hopes that people from all walks of life in Hong Kong will fully and faithfully implement the principle of "one country, two systems" and the Basic Law, and make concerted efforts to safeguard Hong Kong's prosperity and stability, Xinhua reports.
