Kwun Tong march organizers highlight street surveillance

Organizers of a planned anti-government protest in Kwun Tong this Sunday have accepted a change in route suggested by police and said the march will now go ahead, RTHK reports.
The protest, apart from pressing authorities to accept demands of the anti-extradition bill protesters, also wants to raise awareness of new ‘smart lamp posts’ in the district, which they suspect have facial recognition technology.
Organizers had proposed to start the march from Tsun Yip Street playground and end near Kwun Tong swimming pool.
But the police has rejected the end point over safety reasons, and suggested that protesters walk along Hoi Bun Road to Kowloon Bay.
The organizers said they decided to accept the route as many of the new smart lamp posts are on Hoi Bun Road and that will help them highlight that issue.
One organizer, Ventus Lau, said he expects 4,000 to join the march from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.-Photo: RTHK
