Macau port, airport cargo shipments fall in first half

Macau's containerized cargo by land increased by 21.6 percent in the first half, while containerized cargo by air and by sea both fell, the special administrative region's statistic service said.

The Statistics and Census Service said hat in the first half year, gross weight of container cargo by land increased by 21.6 percent year-on-year to 8,823 tons, and laden containers grew by 37 percent to 1,560 tons.

The gross weight of container cargo by land in June fell by 4.7 percent year-on-year to 1,479 tons, of which cargo passing through the checkpoint of Cotai went down by 3.9 percent to 1,424 tons.

In the first half year, gross weight of port container cargo dropped by 7.3 percent year-on-year to 74,610 tons. Port laden container throughput fell by 2.4 percent to 45,108 twenty-foot equivalent Unit (TEU), equivalent to 30,294 containers handled, down by 2.2 percent.

The gross weight of port contain cargo in June dropped by 18.1 percent year-on-year to 12,557 tons, with cargo handled at the Inner Harbour (6,782 tons) falling by 14.1 percent. Meanwhile, port laden container throughput totaled 7,521 TEU, equivalent to 5,055 containers handled, down by 4.0 percent and 4.4 percent respectively.

The Macao International Airport handled 18,375 tons of air cargo in the first half year, down by 3 percent year-on-year. In June, the airport handled 3,135 tons of air cargo, an increase of 10.2 percent year-on-year.
