The International Chamber of Commerce – Hong Kong called on Chief Executive Carrie Lam to set up an independent judge-led investigation into recent turmoil.

In a statement, the chamber also condemned the assailants who attacked citizens at Yuen Long station on Sunday night.

The chamber called on the government and people in different sectors to restore the social order.

The chamber says an independent investigation committee should be set up to review the causes of current social disintegration, including the progress of the proposed amendments to the extradition law, public consultations, legislative procedure, and law enforcement procedure, as well as the response of citizens, government and police.

Yesterday, the Chinese Manufacturers' Association of Hong Kong had called on dissidents to discuss and express their opinions sensibly, and to "not let political disputes delay the development of Hong Kong."
