Carrie Lam warns of breakdown in law and order from violenceLocal | 22 Jul 2019 5:44 pm
The Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor said today her administration does not condone the violent attacks in Yuen Long last night.
She also condemned protesters for vandalizing Beijing's liaison office.
Lam said they challenged China's sovereignty, while hurting the feelings of all Chinese people.
Referring to the mob in Yuen Long, she said the violent attackers came back twice, to hound and beat up passengers in the Yuen Long MTR station.
A mob of men in white T-shirts, carrying bamboo sticks and rods, brutally attacked passengers last night, wounding more than 40. The mob, suspected to be triads working in collusion with the police, mainly targeted those dressed in black. The police have denied the claims.
"We do not condone violent attacks. Violence is not a solution,'' Lam said.
"Hong Kong will suffer as a result of the loss of law and order.''
Lam appeared at a 3:00pm briefing today with her principal officials.
