4,000 to take plunge in harbor swim

The annual New World Harbour Race, which will end at the Avenue of Stars, has expanded the number of swimmers to 4,000. It will be held at 8:00 am on Sunday, October 27.

A record 3,358 swimmers raced last year. In 2016, a 46-year-old swimmer drwoned at about 9:30am as he was about 300m from the finish line and woman died the following day after being pulled from the water unconscious.

The event is organized by the Hong Kong Amateur Swimming Association. The title sponsor is New World Development Company.

Registration is now open.

This year, the swim will begin from the public pier at Wan Chai Golden Bauhinia Square and end at the Avenue of Stars in Tsim Sha Tsui (near Victoria Dockside).

This year an international category has been introduced to the racing group. Fifty elite swimmers from different regions and countries have been invited to take part in this category.
