Yuen Long councilors tangle over fugitives law debate

Local | 25 Jun 2019 2:19 pm

A Yuen Long District Council meeting was suspended for about 15 minutes today after pro-democracy councilors protested chairman Shum Ho-kit's decision to not allow a discussion of the extradition law amendment.

Shum pointed out that the council should handle livelihood issues and not politics.

But pro-democracy councilors including Roy Kwong Chun-yu, Johnny Mak Ip-sing and Zachary Wong Wai-yin argued that livelihood issues and politics are related, and criticized Shum for abusing his power and questioned whether he had been pressured by the Liaison Office to stop the discussion.
