Argentina shipped its first load of chilled beef to China, days after a new health protocol entered into force, Xinhua reports.

The Argentine Ministry of Agribusiness reported on Monday that shipment was on Saturday and consisted of chilled, vacuum packed rib eye cuts, which are considered to be high value cut within the Argentine industry.

"This represents a great opportunity for the Argentine industry and for trade between both countries," said Minister of Agribusiness Luis Miguel Etchevehere.

According to data from the Argentine government, trade between China and Argentina reached US$16.28 billion in 2018, which represents a year-on-year increase of 18.2 percent.

China is the second largest trading partner of Argentina and the largest destination country for Argentine agricultural products.
