HK, China stocks slump amid city protests

Stocks in Hong Kong fell by more than 1 percent today as the city geared for a day of mass demonstrations in business district. The Hang Seng Index shed 1.21 percent, or 335.22 points at 27,454.12.

In mainland China, the benchmark Shanghai Stock Exchange Composite Index opened 0.29 percent, or 8.50 points, lower at 2,917.22, and the Shenzhen Stock Exchnage Composite Index, dropped by 0.22 percent, or 3.34 points, to open at 
1,534.89.
