Michael Tien won't support bypassing Legco vetting

Pro-establishment lawmaker Michael Tien Puk-sun said today that he will not support the government's move to bypass the Legco bills committee and table the controversial extradition law amendment bill to the full Legislative Council next month.

Tien pointed out that as there is still time between now and June 12 – the day of the second reading  another attempt should be made to elect a chairman for the panel.

He said bypassing the bills committee is unprecedented and there could be consequences as the move abolishes the legislature's function of scrutinizing government bills.
