iBond benchmark to be withdrawn next monthBusiness | 21 May 2019 5:25 pm
The Hang Seng Indexes Company announced the termination of Hang Seng iBond Index Series next month.
The series was launched in 2013 to provide the market with a benchmark for the general performance of iBonds issued by the government and listed on the stock exchange of Hong Kong.
The last iBond index constituent, HKGB iBond 1906 (4231), will mature in June this year. Accordingly, the publication of the Hang Seng iBond Index Series will be discontinued, the company said.
The termination of Hang Seng iBond 1906 Total Return Index and Hang Seng iBond Composite Total Return Index will come into effect on June 19, 2019. The government has issued six iBonds since 2011. An investor who had held a portfolio that tracked the Hang Seng iBond Composite Total Return Index since its base date would have realized an annualized return of around 3.1 percent over the past eight years.
