Balconies with tropical greenery are being featured in 3,000 square foot apartments unveiled by Swire Properties in Singapore today in a luxury residential tower.

The Eden, at 2 Draycott Park in District 10, in the Orchard Road neighborhood, was designed by Thomas Heatherwick of Heatherwick Studio, the developer said.

There are 20 apartments, each occupying the entire floor. And each unit has a saleable area of over 3,000 sq ft, and comes with four en-suite bedrooms.

Adrian To, director, residential at Swire Properties, said Eden will set a new benchmark for sustainable ultra-luxury residences.

Thomas Heatherwick said: “Our design recreates the verdant garden access once ubiquitous in the city’s homes, extending the landscape of Singapore from ground level through the building via hanging gardens.”

The unconventional tailor-made concrete core features an abstract topographical map of Singapore’s terrain, creating a three-dimensional texture. The building breaks tradition and moves away from the use of a boxy floorplate, Swire Properties said.

Its sustainable development features have earned Eden a “Green Mark Platinum'' rating from Singapore’s Building and Construction Authority.

Natural ventilation is a key green component, and the cantilevered balconies offer solar shading while windows open on three sides to allow natural cross-ventilation, Swire Properties said.

Eden is set to be completed in the fourth quarter this year.
