Mainlander charged with business account bribery attempt

A mainlander was charged today in the Eastern Magistrates' Courts with offering a bribe to a bank worker for assisting him in opening an account for his company, the Independent Commission Against Corruption said.

Li Xiangmin, 50, the only director-cum-shareholder of Hongkong Yan Civil Trade Limited By Share Limited, was charged with bribery. Li was arrested on Saturday.

On July 27, 2018, Li, offered an unspecified amount of money to an employee of Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation as a reward for assisting him in opening a corporate account with the bank.

No plea was taken today and the principal magistrate Peter Law Tak-chuen adjourned the case until May 14 for plea, while Li was remanded in custody.
