Nikkei tops 22,000 for first time since December

Japanese stocks began the week on a strong note today. The benchmark Nikkei Average recovered the key 22,000 line for the first time since last December.
Analysts say sentiment got a boost from rallies in the US and Europe on Friday. Strong earnings results from JPMorgan Chase in the US helped push up financial stocks in Japan, while a weaker yen sparked buying of major exporters like electronics makers.
The dollar reached the 112-yen level for the first time since early March. That was as many currency traders regained their appetite for riskier assets, and sold the safe-haven yen.
