A traveler, 58, who was convicted of smuggling dried seahorses, was sentenced to four months of imprisonment at the District Court today.

The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department said the woman arrived on August 6, 2018 from Maputo, Mozambique, via South Africa and about 20 kilograms of dried seahorses were found in her baggage. With six months' imprisonment as the starting point for sentencing, her prison term was reduced by one-third as she pleaded guilty.
