The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority confirmed today that the main contract for the Hong Kong Palace Museum building has been awarded to China State Construction Engineering.

The sister paper of The Standard, Sing Tao Daily, had previously reported the tender, citing sources from the construction sector.

It was understood that West Kowloon has a limited choice of contractors, and China State Construction is noted for its low price, according to the report.

The main contract includes the construction of the entire museum building. The construction of the superstructure, designed by Rocco Design Architects, will begin in April and is expected to be completed around end of 2021.-Photo: WKCDA
