Tokyo stocks dropped today as the market mood was dragged down after British Prime Minister Theresa May's plan to leave the European Union was nixed by a vote in parliament overnight.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 303.91 points, or 1.41 percent, from Tuesday to 21,199.78.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 19.04 points, or 1.19 percent, at 1,586.44.
