China says new year spending was steady at 1 trillion yuan

Domestic and overseas consumption was stable during the Lunar New Year holiday the Ministry of Commerce said yesterday.

Retail and catering companies in China realized sales exceeding 1 trillion yuan, up by 8.5 percent compared to the holiday last year, according to ministry, Xinhua reports.

Monitored companies in the catering industry in Beijing reported sales growing by over 10 percent year-on-year.

Thirty kinds of vegetables were 4.4 percent more expensive during the holiday. The price of pork, beef and lamb also respectively increased 1.3 percent, 0.7 percent, and 0.4 percent. The cost of rice, flour, and edible oil remained the same as before the holiday.
