Documents demand deters buyers of cheap Cheung Sha Wan flats

A new batch of government-subsidized flats were up for grabs from today, but some of those who turned up to try their luck were tripped up by the red tape surrounding the sale.

A number of people who came to submit their applications to buy the flats were turned back as they failed to submit all relevant documents.

About 2,500 flats of Lai Tsui Court at Cheung Sha Wan are being offered at a discount of almost 60 percent on the market value to public housing tenants and those who are queuing for a public unit.

At the sale office in Kwun Tong, some applicants complained about the unclear procedures, as they did not know their eligibility must first be endorsed by the management offices of their public housing estates.

"It’s unacceptable! I came all the way from Tuen Mun and they told me I should go back to the the management office of my estate,” a man surnamed Wong said angrily.-Photo: RTHK
