A woman accused of killing a former primary school classmate in a Wan Chai hotel last week has been remanded in custody following a brief appearance before the Eastern Court, RTHK reports.

June Cheung, 59, confirmed that she understood the charge of murder when it was read to her in court.

She did not enter a plea to the charge of murdering 62-year-old Chu Wai-kwun, who was found dead at the Charterhouse Hotel in Wan Chai Road on Thursday.

Prinicipal Magistrate Peter Law said that, because of the gravity of the alleged offence, Cheung would have to apply to the High Court to seek bail.

The case was adjourned until March 20 next year so police can investigate further.
