Cosmetics store fined for playing songs at night

A cosmetics store has been fined HK$9,000 at the Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts today for causing noise nuisance to nearby residents by playing songs continuously at night.

Beauty Land, located at Shantung Street in Mong Kok, contravened the Noise Control Ordinance, according to the Environmental Protection Department. A resident living near the street complained early this year that the store affected the daily lives of nearby residents.

All retail shop operators should keep the noise down and should not cause annoyance to nearby residents when they play music or songs inside the shop premises, a government spokesman says.
