Colombian authorities say that more than 40 Venezuelan women have been rescued from a sex trafficking ring.
Chief prosecutor Nestor Martinez says Thursday the women were captured in the Colombian border city of Cucuta and transported to the capital of Bogota.
Martinez said they were each forced into sex work and were only allowed 15 minutes of free time daily. They were fined if they returned home late.
The ring also allegedly contracted a doctor to perform abortions on women who got pregnant.
Investigators said half the women were rescued in Bogota and the others in Cucuta.
Authorities have expressed concern human trafficking will become more prevalent as the number of women fleeing Venezuela swells.-AP
