At least dozen students wounded in Baptist dorm fire

At least 12 Hong Kong Baptist University students have been injured, one seriously, following a fire at a dormitory early morning. Five are in a stable condition and six others have been discharged from hospital.

Sources say they were having a party in the activity room and someone threw flour into the air. Candles which were burning appear to have set the flour alight, RTHK reports.

A spokesman for the university expressed concern for the injured and said the university was looking into what had happened.

The accident is reminiscent of a 2015 incident at a theme park in Taiwan. Over 500 people were hurt when colored dust sprayed into the air at a festival caught fire, producing a fireball.
