A frozen-meat-shop butcher who was convicted yesterday of murdering his ex-wife's aunt has been sentenced to life imprisonment at the High Court today.

A jury of four men and three women deliberated for more than nine hours to reach a five-to-two verdict that 52-year-old Ngan Wing-chau murdered 62-year-old security guard Chan Sau-wa.

Ngan was also found guilty by a six-to-one margin of preventing the lawful burial of a body. The court was told that Ngan dismembered Chan's body after killing her. But the body has not been found.

The prosecution had told the court that Ngan murdered Chan in his home at Iskra Building on Cheung Sha Wan Road in Sham Shui Po on May 1, 2016.

Chan went missing after work on that day, the prosecution said. After investigation, police saw her last appearing in the building where Ngan is living, and bloodstains were found in his home.
