Arts hub to pay subcontractors their dues

The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority says it will do its best to make sure subcontractors are compensated for work they carried out at the arts hub, in response to allegations that some firms have not been paid properly, RTHK reports.

Seven subcontractors who had worked on the M+ museum project for Hsin Chong Construction complained yesterday that the authority had only offered them part of the HK$70 million they are owed between them, and only if they sign away their right to pursue litigation.

Hsin Chong's contract was cancelled by the authority earlier this year after the firm ran into financial troubles.

In response to media inquiries, the authority said it had posted a notice on its website, urging subcontractors to come forward and inform it about the full extent of the underpayments by Hsin Chong.

It added that it would record all such claims and seek to resolve payment disputes with the firm under the M+ works contract.-Photo: RTHK
