The number of security personnel assigned to ousted Sri Lankan prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has been reduced to 10 from 1,008 on the directions of the police chief, local reports say.

However, police spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara assured the reduction of the number would not compromise security.

The Daily Mirror in Colombo reports that the Inspector General of Police instructed the Prime Ministerial Security Division head Jayantha Wickramasinghe to remove the extra security personnel provided to Wickremesinghe.
