Two more people put in their bids to run in next month's Legco by-election before the end of the nomination period today, making a total of five potential candidates following the disqualification of the Labour Party's Lau Siu-lai, RTHK reports.

The new additions for the November 25 Kowloon West poll were Ng Dick-hay, an IT professional who lost in the Hong Kong Island by-election earlier this year, and Sha Tin district councillor James Chan, who has been barred from running for Legco in the past for his support of Hong Kong independence.

Former health political assistant Yan Chan has the backing of the pro-government camp. She's been confirmed as a candidate, as has former lawmaker Frederick Fung, who is running as an independent.

Labour Party veteran Lee Cheuk-yan has filed his papers as a replacement for Lau. Lee's bid, which was submitted last Friday, had not yet been officially accepted.
