The Hong Kong equity market was range-bound during most of the second quarter, before falling in the second half of June when market sentiment soured by the Sino-US trade tensions and expectations of faster US interest rate increases, the deputy government economist said today, reviewing the second quarter.

The Hang Seng Index closed the second quarter at 28,955, down by 3.8 percent from a quarter earlier. On August 9, the Hang Seng Index closed at 28,607.
