The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation announced today that the number of its social payment app PayMe's active users has surpassed 1 million.

Greg Hingston, head of retail banking and wealth management, HSBC Hong Kong, said that 40 percent of PayMe users are millennials, using it to split bills and pay friends for meals, utility bills, shopping and travel.

Looking ahead, Hingston said HSBC will continue to invest in digital payments and cooperate with more merchants.

In June, HSBC has allowed all users pay with PayMe on HKTVmall. Hingston added HSBC will announce the list of partner merchants as soon as possible. -The Standard
