Chinese white dolphins in Hong Kong waters has declined to 47, the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department has found in a survey. The number of dolphins was lower than the estimates for the last five years – 88, 80, 73, 87 and 65 in 2011 to 2015 respectively.

There are some 2,500 dolphins living in the Pearl River Estuary including about 1,300-1, 500 living in the eastern part of the Pearl River Estuary and Hong Kong waters.

The department said it will look into possible causes of the decline in dolphin population and draw up follow-up measures.-Photo: WWF, HK
